Home Exchange for Vacation

What I Have To Offer : A Home in the Wine Country: Our charming home is located in the delightful small town of Sebastopol, in the Sonoma County wine-growing region of California. We have lovely weather in the Spring. Our home is filled with light (lots of windows), very quiet (on a dead-end street) and close to downtown.
Our kitchen, newly remodeled, has a dishwasher, microwave, large refrigerator, and an old 1950s stove/oven which cooks, grills and broils like a dream. We have a large living room, dining room and a small family room with a High Definition flat screen TV, DVR, satellite, VCR and DVD. We have three bedrooms and bathrooms: the master suite has a king-sized adjustable massage bed, a walk-in closet and an en suite bathroom with a shower; the second bedroom has a queen sized bed with a closet, a small bathroom with a shower and a laundry room with a washer and dryer; and the third bedroom is used as an office (it has a high speed computer connection), has room for our queen sized air-bed, a closet and is next to a large remodeled bathroom with a tub. There are central heating and ceiling fans.
You will enjoy our private outdoor hot tub/jacuzzi. We have lovely front and back yards full of trees, flowers and vegetables. Our brick patio is covered for shade, has a fan for cooling and a propane barbeque grill. There is an attached car port for parking and our 2006 Toyota Prius (a gas-electric hybrid) is available for exchange. We have folding chairs, an umbrella and cool chests for picnics and visits to the beach, parks and/or wineries.

Sonoma County is a wonderful area for biking on the many bike paths (we have 1 bike), hiking through the redwood trees (some of the tallest on earth), visiting our magnificent Pacific coast and wine tasting in the numerous award-winning wineries. The ocean is too cold and dangerous for swimming but whales, seals, sea lions and sea birds can be seen. The nearby Russian River beaches and reservoirs are a delightful way to cool off and enjoy swimming, sailing, fishing, canoeing/kayaking. Driving the rural roads is a pleasure and you will see wildlife such as deer, many kinds of birds, wild turkeys, raccoon, even elk at Point Reyes National Seashore. Bring your binoculars and camera; we can provide bird books, maps, brochures, etc. of the interesting places to visit in our area.

From our quiet street, you will be within 5 to 15 minutes' walking distance of Sebastopolís library, smart shops, book and music stores, a community theater, movie theaters, grocery and variety stores, tennis courts, a swimming pool, parks and churches. The nearby street is lined with whimsical ďjunkĒ art sculptures by a world famous local artist which we love to show our guests. The nearby towns of Santa Rosa, Healdsburg and Rohnert Park have concerts, night-life, museums (including the Charles Schultz/Peanuts cartoon museum) and galleries.
Sebastopolís many restaurants include an old-time American Diner; Mexican, French, Italian, Middle Eastern, Himalayan, Chinese and Japanese ethnic food; a one-star Michelin Guide bistro, wine bars, brew pubs and lots of fresh seafood; also a Farmerís Market with fresh produce and music on Sunday mornings, coffee houses with live entertainment and wonderful bakeries. San Francisco is a one-hour drive or you can use public transit from Santa Rosa to San Francisco. We used to live in San Francisco and can give you information of many of the best places to see there.

We are a retired couple. Alan was an engineer and had done most of the remodeling on our home. He is an avid motorcycle rider. Beverly is a retired paralegal and now does crafts using tesserae (broken pieces of dishes, tiles, odds and ends, etc). She designed and created the mosaic backsplash in the kitchen and master bath. We have one daughter who lives in Central California. We met and married while serving in the Peace Corps in Tanzania, East Africa in the mid-1960s and have returned there twice. We would prefer no young children under 10 and non-smokers.

What I'm Looking For : We are a non-smoking retired couple looking for an apartment, house or condo on the ground floor or, if higher, with a lift/elevator, in Rome, or within easy reach of public transportation into Rome, for 5 days, April 25 to April 30, 2012 (before going on a cruise). Our home is available for your use for 2 weeks from April 25 to May 10, 2012. We would like to exchange use of automobiles also (our's is a 2006 Prius gas/electric hybrid).
